As Two Mile Borris and St. Mary’s C.B.S. emerged from the tunnel, there was a calm in the air. This could only be described as the calm before the storm as both teams tore into the game from the starting whistle. In a testament to the defensive skills and determination of both teams, the scoring throughout was remarkably low but nonetheless this clash proved to be a riveting final from start to finish. Darren Flood produced a marvellous strike on the run to achieve the first score on the board for Two Mile Borris. Diarmuid Maher followed suit with another point. This would be the last score for Two Mile Borris in the first half of an epic contest. Each point for Two Mile Borris was answered respectfully by St. Mary’s with Corey Kelly taking the lead with an impressive score from a difficult angle on the wing. This was followed up by Sean Leahy, 0-1, and Ben Owens, 0-4, to see St. Mary’s going into the second half on a slightly more confident footing than Two Mile Borris.
As the second half whistle sounded, St. Mary’s were put under pressure by a resolute and upbeat Two Mile Borris who were determined not to let a county title slip through their hands. David flood got the first score of the half from a free while Max Hackett shot a beautiful point over the head of St. Mary’s Keeper. Not bowing out without a fight however St. Mary’s fought hard. Two Mile Borris went deep into St. Mary’s territory however, a strong St. Mary’s defence hampered their advance. It was not to be Two Mile Borris’ day however as they could not peg back the deficit. It would be St. Mary’s who would lift the U-13 B trophy.
