Father O’Meara (aged 96 years) who died recently was curate in the parish from 1955 to 1971 and was great a GAA administrator. He was a former Chairman and President of the Moycarkey-Borris club and became Chairman of the Mid Board in 1961 when he took over from Dr. Michael Russell. A position he held until 1969 when Tom O’Hara (Gortnahoe ) succeeded him. He was also a Vice Chairman of the Co. Tipperary Board. In 1961 he was instrumental in having a motion passed at Mid and County conventions restricting the number of clubs in rural parishes to one. A decision at the time that was controversial but in hindsight was a very correct one, giving the difficulty that many clubs now have of fielding teams especially at under age levels. A native of Killoscully he played minor hurling for Tipperary and always had a great interest in Gaelic Games and followed the fortunes at all levels as he also did with athletics. The club was represented at his funeral.
