Moycarkey-Borris were knocked out of the Kilmacud Crokes All-Ireland Hurling 7s competition on Saturday at the Quarter-Final stage by Kiltormer of Galway.
Playing in the Naomh Olaf grounds, Moycarkey played well to earn victories over Meelick Eyrecourt (Galway) and Camross (Laois) to set up a winner takes all match with Ahane (Limerick). Limerick inter-county star Niall Moran was in great goal scoring form for Ahane, scoring 9 goals against Meelick. However, Moycarkey defended resolutely and restricted Moran to a goal in each half which wasn't enough as Moycarkey ran out winners by 7 points, 3-14 to 3-7.
And so Moycarkey had qualified for the knockout stages for the 3rd time in 4 years, making the short journey to Kilmacud to take on Kiltormer of Galway. Moycarkey led early on thanks to a goal by Kevin Moran. However, Kiltormer were level by half-time, 1-5 to 1-5. Kiltormer got 3 early goals in the second half while Moycarkey missed some good chances. Any chance of a comeback was ended mid-way through the second half when in separate incidents, David Morris and Rory Ryan received straight red cards.
The Moycarkey-Borris panel lined out as follows - John Kelly; David Morris, Kevin Moran (1-0), Pat Molloy (7-7), Rory Ryan (2-3), Pat Carey (0-2), Phil Kelly (1-2), Mossy Bracken (1-3), Ger Carey (5-3), Kieran Morris (2-19, 0-11 frees)
