Moycarkey Borris GAA Club Notes - 14th November 2016

Under 21 Hurling
On a crisp autumnal Sunday morning Moycarkey Borris took on Holycross Ballycahill in the Donal and Rose Younge Mid Tipperary Under 21 A Hurling Semi Final in Boherlahan. It was an Anthony McKelvey point from a free that opened the scoring and it was soon followed by a Holycross point. After five minutes it was 0-3 to 0-2 in favour of Moycarkey and it looked like Moycarkey could kick on and keep the lead. After an eleven minute scoring drought for the Moycarkey Borris team, Mattie Ryan scored a point from play and left the score line with Moycarkey still leading by a point. Moycarkey continued to keep on top of play but multiple miss-hit balls into the forward line meant the score board read Moycarkey Borris 0-6 Holycross Ballycahill 0-7 at the break.

Coming out at half time it was important that Moycarkey got the opening scores and kept the pressure on the Holycross team in order to stay in the game. Anthony McKelvey opened the scoring again in the second half after three Moycarkey wides in three minutes. Seven minutes into the half and Anthony McKelvey took on the goalkeeper and struck for a great goal which gave Moycarkey a three point lead. Holycross responded appropriately by scoring the next four points and kept the scoreboard ticking over while it took the Moycarkey team eleven minutes to get their next score. Going into the final quarter the sides were level but Holycross were definitely the more dominant side. Ìn the last fifteen minutes, Moycarkey scored two points to Holycross Ballycahill’s 1-10 and Holycross's last minute goal was a long time coming and sealed the win for them.

Moycarkey’s scoring droughts and missed placed balls made the game very difficult for them to win. While Niall Heffernan was a loss the Holycross Ballycahill team responded to Anthony McKelvey’s goal and built momentum which secured their win.

Moycarkey Borris team – David Ryan; Mikey Bergin, Aidan Maher, Patrick Whelan; Eric Fanning (0-1), Chris McCullagh, Kevin O’Regan; Eoghan Hayes, Tom Hayes; Kieran Cummins (0-1), Joe Doran, Mattie Ryan (0-1); JJ Darmody, Rory O’Regan, Anthony McKelvey (1-7, 0-5 frees).
