The “Tipperary Water” County Hurling League commenced for Moycarkey Borris when they travelled to Templederry to play their hosts, Templederry Kenyons on Sunday last. A strong breeze blew down the field and this aided to make the contest a game of two very different halves.
The sides traded two points each in the first five minutes of the game and in the eighth minute Moycarkey Borris’s Niall Heffernan found the back of the net to put Moycarkey ahead. Three more quick points from Pat Ralph (free), Anthony McKelvey and Rory Ryan meant Moycarkey had a six point cushion before Templederry’s next point of the game, a free from Dillion Carey as the quarter concluded. In the following minute Templederry regained some ground with another pointed free from Dillion Carey and a point from Matthew Hogan. But Pat Carey retained the six point margin when he raised the green flag on the seventeenth minute. There was a further hat trick of points from Niall Heffernan, Anthony McKelvey and Pat Ralph (free) before Gearoid Ryan found the net for Templederry from a penalty. Pat Ralph replied with a point free but a direct ball from Anthony McKelvey cleared past the keeper for a goal for Moycarkey. The final score of the half was Templederry’s Dillion Carey who pointed another free for them leaving the score at half time, Moycarkey Borris 3-9 Templederry Kenyons 1-6.
The breeze that was in the first half was now in Templederry’s favour. Three quick points in the opening three minutes for Templederry meant the margin of six points had returned. In the next five minutes Pat Ralph traded two pointed frees with two points from Templederry. Templederry continued their scoring and registered a further two points before Moycarkey’s next pointed free. A point from Conor Hayes, Moycarkey as the quarter finished meant Moycarkey retained the six point margin, Moycarkey Borris 3-13 Templederry Kenyons 1-13. The final fifteen minutes was going to be tough as Templederry were very much in control of the game. The half time substitution of Eanna Murray proved very beneficial to Templederry as he scored their next six points for them, five of which were from frees. Moycarkey added two points from Pat Ralph (free) and Mossy Bracken but the equaliser of the game came in the fifty eighth minute when Eanna Murray pointed a free. Two further points came from Templederry to leave the final score Templederry Kenyons 1-23 Moycarkey Borris 3-15.
Their round two game is against Loughmore Castleiney at a home venue, further fixture details to follow.
